Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School is part of a network of 11 Expeditionary Learning (EL) schools in New York City and is the NYC network’s first charter school. EL is a proven educational model being implemented in over 150 district, charter and independent schools across the country. Launch's mission is to prepare students in under-resourced communities to thrive in college and careers by providing a public educational experience rooted in active learning and powerful character development. Launch is seeking a middle school Digital Media teacher with a track record of success to join a highly motivated, curious, intelligent, and passionate staff of educators.

At Launch you will:
(Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.)
Teach 4 sections of Digital Media/ Graphic Design
Create a rigorous and engaging learning environment for Launch students
Support students in creating and showcasing high quality work
Demonstrate curiosity about the world and a passion to engage kids in meaningful and authentic learning experiences
Establish and maintain consistent classroom expectations and routines in a student-centered classroom
Incorporate literacy into all units of instruction
Differentiate instruction so that all students (both general and special education students) achieve mastery of learning targets
Work in teams to create one interdisciplinary Learning Expedition a year
Develop character by modeling, teaching and holding students accountable to demonstrate our Habits of Heart and Mind: Compassion, Wonder, Perseverance, Craftsmanship, Mindfulness and Accountability
Communicate and maintain strong relationships with students and their families
Lead a daily small advisory group (called Crew) by modifying and implementing existing curriculum
Prepare students to publicly present and exhibit their work, including at least one annual school-wide Exhibition of student work to be presented to parents and the community
Prepare students to lead Student-Led Conferences and Presentations of Learning
The ideal candidate will have:
Unwavering commitment to Launch’s mission and values and to the Expeditionary Learning model
Exceptional ability to develop and maintain productive and collaborative relationships
Minimum 2 years teaching experience or related experience
Middle school experience preferred, but not required
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
Urban teaching experience or other similar experience in an urban setting
Valid State Certification preferred but not required to apply
